Returned from a great 4th of July in SF a little bit jet lagged. Enjoyed seeing Matt, Karisa, Sharon and Bill out there. Went to Sonoma and a few vineyards, saw a game at Pac Bell, attended the Fillmore Jaz Festival and did some shopping and sightseeing. Sox beat Jays tonight late in the game, finally some nice summer weather, what could be better?
LOG
The weather for the holiday weekend was completely crappy- rainy and cool. It felt more like late October than late May. I cannot remember a stretch of weather timed so poorly. We caught up on movies, rented a couple and got out and saw Bruce Almighty, which was ok, I expected more. Tonight it finally cleared up, sunny and still cool, so I ran 14+ miles, my longest distance since the marathon.

Headed over to Fenway without tickets, intending to scalp. Instead we were able to get seats from the ticket office one hour before game time at face value, under a facade, thus shielding us from rain. Red Sox home opener rained out, but did get to see Ray Charles and Lou Rawls sing America The Beautiful and the national anthem respectively. Very cool. Park looks good with new seats and other additions. Make- up is tomorrow at 1 p.m., with Pedro still throwing.

LOG
Nice quiet weekend with JC so far, but tomorrow will change all that. This morning we went over to Fenway to try and get some Sox tickets, as the new seats above the Green Monster went on sale. We arrived an hour early and there was a line from Gate D, wrapping all the way around to Landsdowne Street! Needless to say I did not wait in line, but we came back later and were told they were not allowing anyone else in, but plenty of tickets are available for all games on the teams website. I was irate- they were telling people this just to get rid of them. Unless you want to go to a game in cold April or by yourself later in the year, you cannot get even 2 tickets to any game. Ugh. We spent the rest of the day shopping and relaxing, and had dinner at O'Haras in Newton Highlands. So tomorrow I have to get up and on a bus at 7 A.M., get dropped off in Natick, then run home to Southie. Further complicating matters is that we are expecting a wintry mix of rain and snow. Basically I will be running 20 miles for 3+ hours in the snow and rain before most people even get out of bed. What a completely crappy winter it has been weather- wise. Other years I am completely content to watch TV and wait for spring, but the one year I pick to train for the marathon it is a classic New England winter. Perhaps someone is sending me a message...

I have been battling a cold all week, forcing me to leave work early the last two days and cut back on my running. Hopefully it goes away tomorrow- getting very bored sitting in the house. Looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend, this weeks long run is (only) 12 miles, so that is a bit of a rest. Planning on running the long distance on Saturday rather than Sunday. The one positive item emanating from this week's respite from running is an improvement in my right ankle, which has been a source of aggravation for the last 2-3 weeks. I guess it takes getting sick to heal leg injuries. hmmm...

Week began with Super Bowl Sunday and a fun party here. Monday had a dinner that will hopefully lead to some pretty incredible things, Thursday night an encore of drinks and conversation post-run. Rest of week was hectic and quite busy at work. Today saw show at Avalon after dinner at Carlos in Allston. Tomorrow it's a 16.5 mile training run and then movie and dinner with JC. I am excited for a big day, so wish me luck on both fronts!

Lets see, went to Hurricane O'Reilly's for first time Friday night, good time but drank too much. After the bar came home and sent drunken e-mails. I finally get over drunk dialing (drunken phone calls,) now it's e-mails, or drunk typing. Whats worse, the e-mails can be forwarded and the proof is there for all to see. Ugh. Purchased a fine new winter coat yesterday, then saw the Star Wars Attack of the Clones IMAX, second time seeing the IMAX, fifth time seeing the movie. Had dinner with Shep and Square at Durgin Park, got up at 8 and ran 13.5 miles. This afternoon it's off to work for a bit and then I'll be ready for some football. I am predicting a Tennesseee- Philly Super Bowl, which based on my abilities this season, is the equivalant the kiss of death for both teams.

A little sore from yesterday's run. Had a difficult time falling asleep b/c I would dream I was slipping on the ice (it was an icy morning run.) Last night's "big" snowstorm turned out to be mostly rain. First run tomorrow morning with L Street group. Picked up packet of materials and paid marathon registration fee today. Boston Beer Garden last night, was packed, no doubt related to weather. Just chilling tonight, watch some football, possibly a movie.
LOG
Joined the L Street Running Club today. I am planning to run the 2003 Boston Marathon on April 21. The first marathon training run with the L Street group is this Sunday at 8 A.M., 10 miles. This obviously presents two challenges: getting out of bed at 8 A.M. on a weekend, and running 10 miles. It looks like I'll have to raise $1200 for charity in order to get a number. May be running on behalf of the Ron Burton Training Village. I have to haul my arse out to Quincy to get the materials and sign up. More details to follow, but I did purchase a hat and gloves today to aid me in running in this damn New England cold. It is also supposed to snow again tomorrow night, 6-7 inches. It is amazing, we have literally had one snow storm a week since the beginning of December. After several consecutive relatively mild and precipitaton- free winters, this one is turning out to be a killer.
