Comedian, actor to run in Boston Marathon
By Associated Press, 04/17/03
BOSTON – It doesn't get more old-school than Boston, where the world's oldest marathon travels a short jog from the nation's oldest university, Harvard.
It's a natural draw for Saturday Night Live veteran and "Old School" star Will Ferrell.
The 35-year-old actor and comedian has signed up for the Boston Marathon, the 26.2-mile run from Hopkinton to Boston that will be held Monday. Ferrell and his wife, Viveca, will compete in their third marathon since 2001.
Will Ferrell, best known for his impersonations of President George W. Bush and as an annoyingly spirited cheerleader, Craig, lost 25 pounds since he began running seriously. He has been training with coach Gary Kobat, whose acting clients also include Jim Carrey and Calista Flockhart.
"Whenever I see an old friend or cast member, they say 'Wow, you look great.' And I feel great, too," Ferrell said in a recent interview with Runner's World magazine. "I have more energy, and I've found that my increased fitness makes me feel better about myself in an overall sense."
Will and Viveca Ferrell also ran in the New York City Marathon in 2001, finishing together in 5 hours, 1 minute and 56 seconds. They also completed the Stockholm Marathon last year in 4:28:02, and Ferrell clocked a 1:45:02 half-marathon last year.
