I just watched an old episode of ‘Party of Five’ On Demand

August 21st, 2008 · No Comments

I forgot how much I loved that show, especially Jennifer Love Hewitt.  And hated Claudia, she was so annoying.  And thought Charlie was a jerk, always riding everyone.  Why couldn’t any of them string together a full sentence without that little pause they always did?  Still loved it though.

I was in high school when it was originally on.  Weird.

Comast Cable Is the Worst Customer Service In the United States

August 18th, 2008 · No Comments

A few weeks back I had to have my DVR replaced by my cable provider, Comcast.  The hard drive kept randomly erasing, so they told me I needed a new box.  The technician came, swapped out the box in about 20 minutes and all is well.  However, when I received my invoice a few weeks later I noticed a $24.95″customertroublecall” charge.  I immediately called, and after 10 minutes on hold I finally got a person, a representative who did eventually waive this maintenance fee.  He then offered me a protection plan for $4 a month that would mean no more surcharges if they had to come to my house for any maintenance on my cable.  I argued that I pay Comast to lease the equipment- in addition to paying for the actual cable service, and if it legitimately breaks without cause, it should be their responsibility.  Why should I pay a insurance charge on top of the lease fee and service fee?  I asked why they could not stand behind their equipment and the representative very kindly pointed out these were Comcast’s fee, not his own.  No kidding, though I wouldn’t be surprised if I did receive a bill from him charging me for speaking to him.

Another time I had called to add a channel.  In addition to higher charges for the channel they add on a $3 “change of service fee.”  I asked to have that fee waived and was told no.  I asked if when I cancel my service will they charge me that same fee and the representative admitted they would.  I wish Verizon Fios would hurry up and come to Boston so I can get rid of these assholes.

We Are Currently Experiencing a Higher Than Normal Call Volume

August 18th, 2008 · No Comments

In the last few weeks I have had to make a few housekeeping- type calls to some utilities, like the cable c0mpany, and banks.  Each time I was put on hold by these completely unrelated companies, their customer service recording made the announcement that they were experiencing high call volume and wait time might be long.  Bullshit.  They are making excuses in attempt to make waiting on hold seem like it is unusual.  It makes me so mad because not only do most of these companies have stupid policies and try to bilk every last cent from you, but they also lie because they don’t have enough staff to handle their consumers.

A Strong Case For More Stringent Drug Testing In Major League Baseball

August 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Manny Ramirez has got to be high.  Not just a little high, but completely apeshit gonzo stoned.  Baked.  Fucked up.  Dazed and confused.  Burnt.

After spending the last eight years demanding trades, rescinding those same demands, playing when he felt like playing, feigning injury or dead grandmothers whenever he wanted to skip a game, and being one of the greatest right-handed hitters Boston has ever seen, the Red Sox finally traded Manny.  On Thursday, right at the trading deadline, the Sox basically paid the Dodgers and Pirates to take him off of their hands.  Gordon Edes of the Boston Globe, in his last column for the paper, today reported that Manny asked the Sox to reverse the trade just one hour after the deadline.  He would behave for the remainder of the season if the Sox simply waived the two one- year options they held on him.  The Red Sox said no, and off to L.A. he went.  Fast- forward to today.  According to Enrique Rojas and ESPN.com, here’s what Manny had to say after just one game with the Dodgers. “I like this city, the environment, the energy in the fans. I think that I’ll play here for the remainder of my career, I want to even buy a house in Los Angeles. My kids go to school in Miami, and I’d like them to move with me [to L.A.], but there will be no move until my future here is confirmed. I don’t want to be here for two months and then end up in another city…”  That’s like marrying the first girl you ever boned.  As a Sox fan it is even more ludicrous because we have seen Manny make these same comments time and time again.  He is the guy who tells every girl who smiles at him that he loves her, and means it.  Cleveland fans and Red Sox fans had their hearts broken after Manny promised them forever, now it’s the Dodgers’ fans turn.

To quote one of his apparent influences, Snoop Dogg, let’s get ‘back to the topic at hand.’  Manny has got to be high.  Very high.  He is no doubt going into the MLB Hall of Fame, but I have a feeling he will also be joining the like of Cheech, Chong, Bob Marley, Ron Clayton, Harold, Kumar and Willie Nelson is the marijuana hall of fame.  This would also explain his leaving checks for thousands of dollars around, and I guess now we know what he was doing inside the Green Monster during pitching changes.  Don’t forget the incident in 2002 that caused a controversy, coming to bat at Fenway to “Good Times,” by Styles P, with the refrain “I get high, I get high.”  I implore the Commissioner to review the tapes of Manny high fiving a fan in Baltimore a few weeks ago as he threw a ball back into the infield, turning a nifty double-play.  Check the tape to see if the guy he high fived was actually giving him a bag of bud, Bud.

No Manny No Cry

July 31st, 2008 · No Comments

I understand the Red Sox had to trade Manny.  The team is struggling.  He forced their hand.  The risk is he would sabotage the rest of the season with his poor attitude.  I get it.  But did the Red Sox give up too much to get rid of him?

What I don’t understand is the Dodgers’ role in this transaction.  How in the world does Manny end up in Los Angeles?  From everything I’ve read the two prospects the Dodgers gave up are lousy.  Based on what I’ve read, Andy Laroche is mediocre, a no bat third baseman, and Morris is a pitcher coming off Tommy John surgery who was immediately sent to Single A by the Pirates.  Single A for the Pirates is like Babe Ruth league compared to other franchises.  The Red Sox give up Manny, pay $7 million to cover his salary, and give up two major league- ready players in Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss.  Moss can hit, but probably did not have a future in Boston as long as Coco Crisp remained here.  Craig Hansen came up a few years back with alot of hype buy struggled.  A few years later he seemed to be over, back in the majors this season and getting alot of use out of the Red Sox bullpen.  Recently he as experienced control problems, but he has great stuff, throws hard and probably has a bright future.  His inclusion is probably the hardest part to swallow given the dearth of quality relievers.  It also probably means a reprieve for Mike Timlin, as he was probably on the bubble when Dave Aarsdmell returns from the disabled list.

Don’t get me wrong, I am looking forward to seeing Jason Bay.  I’m sure he will be good.  Not Manny, but good.  I can see why the Red Sox wanted him.  He was probably the best option they had once they decided to rid themselves of Manny.  The only explanation seems to be that to get Bay, the Pirates insisted on 3 MLB- ready prospects.  The key for the Red Sox was to find a team to supply the prospects.  Once the Marlins were deemed to not be a fit, the only choice the Sox had was to throw in some of their own prospects.  I just don’t understand what exactly the Dodgers gave up that allows them to get Manny.  The Sox couldn’t have at least gotten out of paying his salary?  The immediate winner in the transaction is the Dodgers.  They basically get Manny for two crappy prospects, at no dollar cost.  The Pirates add 3 young players to their MLB roster, and another prospect.  The Red Sox get a young outfielder who can play all 3 OF positions, runs well, hits for some power and drives in runs.  They have him under their control next season for considerably less than they would have paid Manny.  And they don’t have Manny any more.

Let’s hope this works out better than the last time Theo dealt with the Pirates, when Suppan and Saurbeck absolutely sucked for the last 2 months of the season. and the Pirates added a very good hitting infielder in Freddy Sanchez.

MY EYES! MY EYES!

July 7th, 2008 · No Comments

No joke. For the last 2 days I have had paint or something in my right eye.  It hurts, and even after I wash it out or put in eye drops the discomfort persists.  Anyways, tonight I am eating some delicious 3 way Skyline chili for dinner and somehow, someway, it drips off the fork back into the bowl, and a little fleck of the sauce plopped up into my eye.

My wife told me she is going to make me wear goggles.

VINCENT IS A COMPUTER !

June 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

All of the old structures including the bone were constructed by an ancient civilization, perhaps canine. These ancient  “dogs” had the knowledge to create and harness kibbles and, more importantly, bits.  As a result, they could create and control holes in your backyard.  Through the use of hole technology they were able to move entire land masses not only into a pile but from pile to hole and hole to pile. We don’t know what happened to these dogs, but they may have been buried in their own holes. However, the canines had the forethought to protect their bones from others.  They created the ”growl” as a security measure.  They may have also left a massively powerful intelligent computer behind.  That computer is known by the acronym V.I.N.C.E.N.T.

All of the old structures including the wheel were constructed by an ancient civilization, perhaps alien. These ancient  “people” had the knowledge to create and harness electromagnetic radiation and, more importantly, negatively charged exotic matter.  As a result, they could create and control wormholes and time travel.  Through the use of wormhole technology they were able to move entire land masses not only on this planet but from planet to planet and universe to universe. We don’t know what happened to these people, but they may have been destroyed through their own technology. However, the ancients had the forethought to protect their Island from others.  They created the ”smoke monster” as a security measure.  They may have also left a massively powerful intelligent computer behind.  That computer is known by the acronym J.A.C.O.B.
